A total of 92 people attended Golden State's Energy Symposium in Hollywood in September 29 & 30. The keynote speaker, CEC Commissioner James Boyd, led off with a comprehensive overview of California energy challenges and opportunities and explained many of the activities CEC has undertaken to address them. Greg Wortham, representing 1st Rochdale Electric Co-op of New York, won the electric car.

BOB MARSHALL ELECTED CHAIRMAN OF GOLDEN STATE

Bob Marshall, Manager of Plumas-Sierra Rural Electric Cooperative, was elected Chairman of the Association's Board of Directors on October 15. He takes over from David Coyle, Manager of Anza Electric Co-op, who was elected Vice-Chairman. Dan Silveria, Manager of Surprise Valley Electrification was elected Secretary-Treasurer.

COPE TO LAUNCH STRANDED GAS PROJECT IN JANUARY

While it's been in the works for a couple of years now, Bob Fickes, Manager of California Oil Produers Electric Cooperative (COPE), announced recently that his $2-million dollar R&D project to turn wasted, low-quality natural gas from oil fields into electricity will start operating in January, 2004 when the first R&D site is dedicated near Staples Center in L.A. Other sites around the state will become operational shortly thereafter. Some concrete pads have already been poured and some equipment installed.

ENERGY SYMPOSIUM FOR NATIVE AMERICANS IS SCHEDULED
